Vogue 7883 - finished

Today I finally finished Vogue 7883. I'm not as thrilled with the top as I thought I'd be, but it's OK. It has dropped shoulders, and even though I made an 8 (according to the pattern I should have made a 12 and tapered to the 16 at the hip) it still has a lot of ease. Basically, though, I'm happy with it.

I'm surprised that I like the pants. I don't normally wear pull on pants, but these do have pockets. I didn't think I'd like the cropped length, but I do. I'm also really glad that I lined them.

I did do some decorative stitching on the sleeve hems, and I like the way that turned out.

I made a muslin of this top, and I'm glad I did. First of all, it was way to wide in the neck, so I added one inch to each side to bring it in. Also, it tended to pull up in the front, so I added a 1" dart to each side and that seemed to stop that problem. I do like the asymmetrical flaps in the front

Today I spent some time helping a friend from church make a purse. She had admired mine and wanted me to make one for her. I knew she was just starting to learn to sew, so I told her I'd teach her how to make it. She came over last weekend and we did all the cutting out. This weekend we started sewing. Of course, this is letting me get mine done as well. I demonstrate on mine what to do, then she does it, step by step. It's really fun to teach someone else how to do something you love so much yourself. Tomorrow I may put up a sneak preview of the cute fabric I'm using for mine. I'm making it a little bit bigger this time and putting longer handles on. I hope I like it. I love the fabric.

Love the stiching, love the hem. This is kind of arty without being 'art'.

You look beautiful and fresh in that outfit, lovely details. Bet it is fun to teach someone, sort of re-discovering why we love sewing so much. I'm hoping youngest DD will give me that experience :-)

Nice outfit. I love yellow about as much as I love green. Great job on the decorative stitching. Your mitered corners turned out great!

I've made this top and other than it being a little too wide in the shoulders and neckline for me (my fault, should have done a muslin) I absolutely loved mine. As I do yours. Don't you just love that wrapped bottom? Your banding is a great touch.
